Do I have to have straight A’s
to get into the program?
No. We typically recruit hardworking students who may struggle
with their schoolwork, but have a strong desire to go to college.
Students at all levels are eligible.
What does first generation mean?
It means your parents do not hold a four-year college degree.
How are income guidelines determined?
The federal government determines the income level as it relates
to family size each year, which determines whether or not
a family qualifies as low income.4. What if I have scheduled
plans such as a family vacation, sports camp during the summer
program?
Students are not permitted to miss days
during the summer program.5. What type of housing is available
for the students?
The students live in campus dorm rooms along with the Resident
Director and Resident Assistants.
Will we be eating our meals in a dining
hall?
Yes.

New Castle County public schools
What is typical day in the program like?
Students eat breakfast, then attend 3 classes in the morning.
They go to lunch, then attend one more class in the afternoon.
There is a daily workshop that incorporates a variety of fun
activities, then free time, dinner. After dinner there is
an evening study session, then an evening activity. Finally
the students return to their rooms for bed.
What classes will I be taking?
You will be taking classes in English, Math, Science and either
Spanish or Computers.
Will there be staff members with us
all of the time?
Yes.
What is the cost of the program?
There is no cost to the students or their families. A grant
issued by the federal government pays all expenses.
Do we go home on the weekends?
Yes. Students leave on Friday afternoon and return on Sunday
evening each week.
What is the dress for the summer program?
Appropriate classroom attire is expected. Students may wear
shorts and t-shirts.
What do we need to bring to the summer
program?
You need to bring your clothes, bedding, washcloth and towels,
a fan (dorms are NOT air conditioned), an alarm clock and
any items you would like to decorate your room. The rooms
are empty upon move-in except for a bed, dresser and desk
for each student.
Are the dorms co-ed?
Dorms are co-ed by floor. Boys are not allowed on the girls’
floors and girls are not allowed on the boys’ floor.
Will I have a roommate?
Yes. Roommates are selected by the Program Counselor, based
on student information acquired during the interview.
Are we allowed to call home?
Yes. During free time students are allowed to use the phones
in the dorm. Students are not allowed to have cell phones
during the program.
Can I bring a TV or Computer?
No. Televisions and computers are not permitted in individual
dorm rooms. There is a television and a computer room in the
dorm that students may access.
