The Academic Enrichment Center (AEC) provides tutoring
in a wide variety of subject areas. Free group tutoring is
available in over 40 courses each semester, primarily in the
areas of mathematics, science and certain business courses
(AEC Group Tutorials).
Courses are continually being added to the list as needs warrant.
Individual
tutoring is available in most subject areas for students participating
in AEC programs (Tutoring
Request). All other students are offered individualized
tutoring at an affordable cost. Rates for the 2007-2008 academic year are $10.50/hr for undergraduate tutors, $13.50/hr for graduate tutors. A TutorFind directory of all
tutors/subjects listed at the AEC is available in our lobby,
for those students who need to identify and hire a tutor on
their own. All contacts and arrangements are handled privately
between the individuals involved. Prices are regulated to
keep this service affordable. The TutorFind directory is updated
regularly and is available to all students, full/part-time,
attending the University.
In addition, Supplemental Instruction (SI)
group review sessions are conducted in several courses each
semester at the request of specific programs or faculty. SI
is a non-remedial comprehensive academic support program that
provides assistance through regularly scheduled group study
sessions. Each
group is led by an experienced tutor who attends all class
sessions, takes notes, and reviews readings. Students become
actively involved with course content and develop strategies
for mastering the material and preparing for exams.
All AEC tutors and group session leaders
have faculty recommendations, meet strict grade standards,
and are screened by the AEC. Ongoing training and monitoring
of the program is conducted regularly.
