Visit the TAC (PowerPoint presentation)
- Students must sign up at least 7 days in advance for each exam to be taken at the TAC. This may be done by using the TAC Exam Sign-Up Webform or by signing up in the Test Accommodations Center
(TAC), 210 Smith Hall.
- Students must remind the professor at least a week ahead
of time that you plan to take the test in the Academic Enrichment
Center’s TAC. Ask the professor to deliver the exam (with Test Cover Sheet) to the AEC at 150 S. College Ave. (not to the TAC, to reduce disruptions) or fax the exam to 831-4131 at least 24 hours ahead of time.
- TAC is open in the Fall and Spring semesters, Monday
through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Typically,
you will take your exam at the same time as your class is
taking the exam. However, you will need to be mindful of
your schedule and the TAC’s hours to ensure that you
will have enough time to allow for your accommodation. You
must have express permission from your instructor to alter the test
taking schedule.
- If I take extended time on an exam at the same time
as the class, I will have to miss my next class. Can I begin
earlier?
Yes. We generally do not require permission for you to begin your exam early, as long as you remain at the TAC for the duration of your scheduled test time and have notified your professor. Be sure your professor knows to get the exam
to us on time.
- My class is taking the exam at 5:00 p.m., but the
TAC closes at 5:00 p.m. Can I take it earlier?
Yes, as long as you receive express permission from your
professor, as indicated on the test cover sheet, and you
remain in the TAC at least until the scheduled exam time
for the class. Be sure your professor knows to get the exam
to us on time.
- My class is taking the exam at 7:00 p.m. What do I
do?
Start by talking with your professor. Many professors allow
students to take such an exam earlier the same day (with
permission indicated on the test cover sheet). If this is
not an option, the professor will need to provide the necessary
accommodations.
- Why do I have to sign up for an exam 7 days in advance,
if the professor is already sending it over to you?
We administer a large number of exams daily. Without knowing
well in advance who will be using the TAC, we may not have
spaces for all test-takers (particularly during midterms
and finals, when we may need to reserve additional room).
It is also important for us to review students’ requests
to ensure that there are no potential problems in administering
a particular exam. We appreciate our students taking personal
responsibility for their use of the TAC; we can run this
service most effectively with the cooperation of all.
- If I am ill on the test day and unable to take the
exam at the TAC, can I just take the exam the next day?
We do not administer late/make-up exams without receiving
permission from the professor, who may prefer to send a
different version of the exam for students in this situation.
Students must ensure that both the professor and the TAC
are notified.
- If I have a question about a test item, can I ask the
proctor?
No, our proctors are not allowed to help in this manner.
We recommend that you respond to the item as best you can,
then write a note to the professor explaining why you made
that choice.
- If the cover sheet does not indicate that I am allowed
to use a calculator/note sheet/etc., but I know we can,
what should I do?
The proctor will first try to reach your professor to confirm
this. If s/he cannot be reached, you may use the aid, but
the proctor will make a note on the cover sheet that the
aid was used. If a note sheet is used, it will be returned
to the professor with the exam.
