The process for determining a student’s eligibility
for accommodations is summarized below:
Obtain Information
and Guidelines: A student seeking accommodations should visit
our web site at www.aec.udel.edu for information and guidelines
regarding disability services.
- Submit Documentation: A student requesting accommodations
should submit appropriate documentation (see guidelines), a completed AEC Intake Form and Request for Accommodations to the AEC, attention: Documentation Review Committee (DRC). The process
for determining eligibility for accommodations generally
takes several weeks.
- Review Process: The submitted documentation will
be reviewed by the University’s Documentation Review
Committee (DRC) to determine the student’s eligibility
for an accommodation(s) using the University’s criteria.
Outcome: The student will be sent a letter regarding
the outcome of the DRC’s review.
- A final determination of eligibility cannot be made until
all required documentation is received. If the DRC is unable
to make a decision due to the submission of insufficient
documentation, the student will receive a letter requesting
the additional information needed.
- Once a decision has been reached, the student will receive
a letter stating whether or not he/she is eligible for an
accommodation(s).
- If the student is eligible for an accommodation(s), he/she
will be directed in the letter to schedule an orientation
session with an AEC staff member. The purposes of this orientation
are for the student to discuss the accommodation(s) and other support services
appropriate to his/her needs, and to receive instructions
on use of the Test Accommodations Center. The student may
begin to use the accommodation(s), in accordance with established
procedures (after the orientation is completed); accommodations
cannot begin until after this session.
- If the student is not eligible for accommodations, he/she
will be directed in the letter to other University support
services.
