The Academic Enrichment Center (AEC) provides accommodations
and assistance for matriculated students with documented learning
disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD) in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation
Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
of 1990. Students who meet University admissions requirements
(i.e., are otherwise qualified to attend the University) are
required to submit appropriate documentation so that the University
can determine whether they qualify for reasonable accommodations.
Learning Disabilities/ADHD staff work in conjunction with
other AEC staff members, University service professionals,
and faculty members to provide necessary help for students
with diagnosed LD and ADHD. The AEC also works jointly with
the Center for Counseling and Student Development to serve
students diagnosed with ADHD and with the Office of the ADA
Coordinator when a documented LD or ADHD co-occurs with a
physical or medical disability.
In order to be eligible for accommodations, students must
submit:
- an AEC Intake Form and Request for Accommodations form
- documentation that meets the University's guidelines from an appropriately licensed diagnosing professional
- results of recent testing (within 3 years)
- explicit statement of the disability
- recommendations for accommodations which are consistent
with test results
A thorough explanation of the requirements for documentation
is contained within the LD
Documentation Guidelines for the Diagnosing Professional
and the ADHD Documentation
Guidelines for the Diagnosing Professional.
Documentation is reviewed by the University's DRC (Documentation
Review Committee). Results of this review will be provided
as soon as they are available. If found eligible for services,
the student must meet with a staff member for discussion about
accommodations and for orientation.
